Derelict Vessel Inventory

Derelict Vessel Inventory: Navigation Protection Program

TyPlan was retained by the Navigation Protection Program (NPP) whom administer the Navigation Protection Act (NPA) to undertake and compile a derelict vessel inventory of vessels in British Columbia waters. While larger vessels were a component of the inventory, the majority of the derelict vessels inventoried were recreational and resided throughout the Gulf Islands. Consultation with various government agencies (Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canadian Coast Guard and representatives from the Islands Trust local municipalities and interest groups) provided the contacts to support the inventories preparation.

As part of the scope of work, a detailed inventory was prepared, complete with the inventory inclusive of name of vessel, location, photo, registration number, and ownership etc. ). The identification of such disposal options was also presented. This study enabled the authors an understanding of marine locations and municipal contacts that supported the review within the Islands Trust as well as coastal communities.
